DFL 2018 Week 9: Hey - Where'd everybody go?

Well, week 9 has come and gone and this week set the record for something....  The most teams with incomplete line ups.  Yeah, I'm going there this week.  It's gonna be a shame type week, fellas (and lady).

I knew that I'd be able to get this gif in here before the end of the season!

First off, Ben started a TE that was on BYE.  Granted, Ben has been known to take actions on some weird twisted principle before (see last year where he hung onto a dude on IR all year to protest the terrible policy of having 4 bench slots) and he is on the record as hating the devoted TE slot (not sure if you noticed), but this really bit him in the ass this week.

Sorry - this was the safest for work gif that I could find of "bite in the ass."
On completely related note, the internet is a weird place....
The top 17 tight ends this week would have pushed Ben to victory this week.  And I'm sure that he's going to post something about devoted TE being a BS position, but we all know that when he says that, it just means that he loves me.

Next up, Josh.  He had a full line up going into Monday night.  Just a defense to play and down by a scant 30 points.  I woke up on Tuesday to see that he had pulled his DEF and started nobody.  Why would he do this?  Dude figured a way to get a free pick up before the waivers kicked in.  Either he gets a few pidly points to narrow the gap a little or he finds himself  a player who hasn't played yet this week, and thus not be put into waivers.

That's French for "Josh is a cheating bastard."
Well played, Josh... well played....

And Lastly, the King of non full starters, Skoot.  He hasn't started a full roster for 3 weeks. but then again he's won most of those games, so who the hell am I to question his strategy?  I guess that he really wanted to put his strategy to the test this week, because he had *3* starters on BYE this week and he still pulled out a win.

I mean... keep it up?   I guess?
But let's get down to it, shall we?

Elimination League.  3 players, 3 different picks.  Josh went with Chicago (and advanced to week 10), McClennen picked Carolina (and advanced to week 10), and Phil picked Dallas (and thus proved that you never EVER make a pick for Monday night - I mean Dallas was coming off a BYE, AT HOME, AGAINST THE TITANS.  FFS, how much more can the stars align?  They had like a 9 point spread!!)  So, well done McClennen and Josh for making it to week 10.  As for me....

Pick ems. This was....  it was not a banner week for us, y'all.

Terri topped the picks with 4-2.  Ben and Crutch kept each other honest at 3-3.  Phil and Josh stunk up the place at 2-4.  And Mike... well Mike tried his best at 1-5.  Kyle screwed all of the picks up with his upset, and Skoot wasn't too far behind with his THREE benched player.  Ugh....

That leaves the standings like this:
Phil:  38
Ben:  31
Crutch:  29
Mike:  28
Josh:  28
Terri:  27

So, the gaps is closing.  And if everyone could stop having upsets, I'd be just dandy...

Big week, big games.  Let's get to them!

Patrick (95.65) vs. Crutch (62.65).  This game was actually projected pretty close.  But then Patrick just ex-freaking-ploded. (I mean, like, not literally.)  McCaffrey, Kelce, and Whatever Defense Plays Buffalo all went mad this week.  Crutch tied to keep up with Hunt being Hunt and Fitzmagic both kicking some serious ass.  For you, Crutch, to ease the pain:

That's *FITZ*magic to you,sir!
Phil (89.20) vs. Josh (59.05).  On paper this seems like it should have been closer.  On my team, Landry, Ingram, an Houston didn't really live up to expectations.  But really when Conner and Kamara are on the field, does it really matter?  Josh responds that when Cousins and Moore shit the bed so bad, you just bench your D and make player moves.

Mike (77.33) vs. Ben (75.81).  So much to be happy about in this game!  Ben loses! (yay!)  Ben loses because of his own orneriness!  (Double yay!)  Mike wins, but he knows that Ben wasn't at full strength! (huzzah!)  I picked Mike to win! (what what????)  Mike is inching dangerously close to first place.  (Oh... Damn.)

Sad face indeed...
Kyle (71.42) vs. Stephen (67.55).  This was a really close game.  Both teams had a player in the 20+ range.  Both teams had 3+ players in double digits.  And both teams had middling players.  The difference?  Stephen started the Washington D, and they pulled in -4 points against Atlanta.  On paper, makes a lot of sense.  In application, it cost him the game.  Like I always say: "Defenses lose games."

via GIPHY

D (55.86) vs. Terri (55.17).   A bed wettingly close game, this one.

via GIPHY

Ok that might have been a little too much.  Anyways, whereas the previous game was decided by a bad defense, this was was decided by a bad QB.  That is to say D's QB Stafford who went -6 points.  I mean 10 sacks?  What the hell Detroit O line? So, had Stafford be just a liiiiitle bit worse, Terri might have been able to steal this game.

Skoot (54.76) vs. McClennnen (53.35).  OK seriously.  I've been staring at this game for like 5 minutes now.  Where the hell did this go off the rails?  McClennen was projected at almost double Skoot's points.  Yet somehow Skoot's starters (you know, the ones who actually played...) managed to eek a victory in here.  So, hail to the underdogs, I guess.

This game did not warrant a .gif.  So, you get nothing.
Static at that.
Alright.. that's about it for now.  Remember trade deadline is this week,if you're into that sort of thing.

DFL 2017 Week 9: October's over - what a shithole!

Ugh... well, we're just about to enter into double digit weeks.  But before we get there, let's take a moment to reflect on what a shit hole October was.

We'll start with the obvious.... I haven't won a single game in October.  (And the only other one to accomplish this crap hole of a feat has started 3 players on BYE on each of the previous two weeks.)  Who doesn't like to see their good pal Phil win a game here and there?

Then, there's the undisputed leader of the league, Ben.  I mean, really?  Dude is still sitting on Luck, even though he might never play in the NFL again.

The longest streak of the league belongs to one Mr Patrick Mulligan McPoyle Hutton.  And to top it all off, the dude with the most moves in the league is not only a newbie, but also #3 in the standings.  Yeah, it's Josh.  Now, normally,I'm in favor of names that can be used as verbs (see:  my name), but this is what comes up as the first GIS for "Josh":

Ladies and Gentlemen (and Skoot - whatever the hell you are), we need to correct this situation stat.  We've only got 5 more weeks of regular season.  Let's please hand these jabronis some losses, shall we?

League Pick'ems.  Well, we sent off October appropriately with the Pick'em League.  With a big ol' fuck you.

Only 4 people made picks.  Josh and Crutch went 4-2, Ben went 3-3, and I had a season worst of 2-4.  That leaves the standings at:

Phil:  35
Ben: 31
Josh:  23
Crutch:  21
Terri:  15
Patrick:  15
Mike:  14

So, we do have a few individual tight races going on.  Get in there and pull ahead of your partners.  Except you, Ben.  Here's a little advice, straight from all our favorite element: neon

And we got not one but two YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR awards to hand out this week:  Terri completely upset D and Kyle messed up Kerry is unprecedented fashion.

As Kyle outscored the rest of the league, I think that this is as good of a place as any to start....

Kyle vs. Kerry.  Well, Kyle's Patriot heavy team had to have a BYE week some time. So, Kyle had to scramble to find a team.  And holy fuck, did he ever!  Team high score, highest score of the week, AND beatdown of the week!  (In fact, he beat Kerry down so bad that the point differential in the game was more than almost half the the teams in the league just scored.)  Looking at Kerry's score, I thought "Man, she didn't set a line up this week!  Come on!"  Well, she did.  Fournette was benched for violating team rules at the last minute, Dickson just didn't get looked at all game, and somehow Walsh missed all three gimme field goals.  And those were just the players who goose egged!  Another didn't even hit 1 point another fell short of 3.

Josh vs. Phil.  Well, for a game that was predicted to be so close that it hurts, this was sure a pisser. It was pretty evenly matched.  The big differentiatior was on Alvin Kamara who just went crazy.  Cuz you know, people named Alvin so often do well in the NFL.

This numb nuts is the guy who won it for you, Josh.  I hope that
you're happy with yourself.
Patrick vs. Crutch.  Son of a ....  Well, Patrick took this one, extending his winning streak even farther.  The kicker is that Zeke was able to play at the last minute.  That means that Patrick snuck this win under the RADAR.  If Zeke's suspension was upheld, then Patrick would have scored 8 less points (assuming that he played his best RB), and Crutch would have pulled the win instead.  So, Patrick, congratulations on winning this one by the hair of your chinny chin chin.

Do you remember Green Jelly?  I remember Green Jelly.
Ben vs. Mike.  O.  My.  Gosh.  (Look at her butt)  Speaking of close games, here's another.  Ben *barely* wins this game by a point.  Not overly surprising, except that Ben is in first place and Mike is in dead last place.  AND Mike hit line up Nirvana.  So, Ben keeps his strangle hold on first place, while Mike continues to languish in last.  It was a noble try, Mike.  And one to be saluted.  Really, the only thing left to do at this point.....

Quit your job as a stripper and become a mildly entertaining
Youtube sensation.
McClennen vs. Skoot.  Well, McClennen, you got a gift here.  With Winston getting knocked out early, McCoy thinking that he was back in Philly, and starting the Cin DEF, you scored a lackluster 57 points.  The good news is that Skoot was distracted by shiny things and forgot to set his line up (again).  So, 3 players on BYE, one that is too old and was just released from the team, AND one that was traded a scant 48 hours before game time all totaled 0 points.  The remaining 3 players did OK though.

Terri vs. D.  Ugh... AKA, well, shit.  Someone has to win, right?  Terri had a terrible game at 45 points, but that actually more than doubled her opponent.  I've seen some sad games, but this had got to be top 5 saddest games ever.

But yeah, we're in the short rows now.  Right now, there is a *5* way tie for 5th place (based on record alone), and there's only a 2 game difference between 1st and 3rd place.  So, it's a lot tighter than it has been in the past.  October is over, so let's go and kick some ass here folks!  Upsets from here on out!  Who's with me??

Oh, screw you guys, then.

DFL 2016 Week 9: What's going on here???

I don't get this league sometimes.  I mean just look at this week....Kookie and Mike are the only ones to be in the centurian club.  They are on top of the league, followed by RA Dave and ME, for crying out loud.  Plus, Crutch, who hasn't touched his team since Forsett was still on the Ravens (like before he was cut and resigned) is on a three freaking game winning streak!

Anyways, I guess that I'm going to have make this a shorter one this week, what with America going crazy on the elections today.  (I'm kinda expecting a The Purge day next year the way that things are going....)  So, let's get into this.

First off elimination league.  O wait.  I forgot. I won that last week...

Moving on.

Pick 'ems. RA Dave and I both went 5-1 this week, keeping us tied in first place.   Sadly, Terri went 4-2, barely slipping out of first.  Suspiciously enough, Mike also make the same picks as his dear wife.  Hmmm.. Is there some collusion going on here?

I mean, maybe... but why?
So, that leaves us at:
RA Dave  32
Phil  32
Terri 31
Mike 27

And Skoot is sitting at 8, and Ben at 6.  So, like, I kinda think that they are out of it at this point.  And also, may I just say thanks to Ben for not being able to take McClennnen out this week?  Bastard cost me a perfect week!!

Quick run down on the actual league:

High Score:  Kookie (with 101 points!)
Low Score:  Skoot (with 32 points!)
Beat down of the week:  Kookie to Skoot (man it's nice when these things kinda work themselves out like this...
Biggest Surprise of the week:  Crutch picks up his THIRD victory in a row!!  (Crutch are you back?)
Closest game of the week: Terri beat RA Dave by 12 points.  Not exactly close, but what are you going to do?
Highest single player score:  Matt Freaking Ryan.  (I mean, are you kidding me?)
Longest streak?  5 game losing streak for Skoot.
Longest streak of someone still checked in?  Melanie's on a 4 game losing streak and Phil and Mike are on 4 game winning streaks.

So, things are heating up out there.  Only 5 more weeks until the playoffs, and only skoot has been pretty much eliminated from post-season play.  (OK, I guess that it would be a REALLY long shot for Missy at this point too, but possible.)  So keep up the strong playing and get those playoff berths!

(Oh, and as a side not, trade deadline is this week.  Of course, we've had 2 trades this year, which I think is some sort of record, so I won't push my luck.  :) )

That's about it for now.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go pray for a miracle McMullin win in Utah.

DFL 2014 Week 9: The week of the Daves

Well, geez...  this was a disappointing week. I mean, only two people even got close to hitting triple digits.  Now, granted those two hit the triple digits and just kept right on going... but for everyone else, the week came and ...

So congrats to Crutch and RA Dave... This was squarely your week.  With the massive points that you threw down, you both jumped up in the standings like 4 each.  Well done.  But I think that we're probably getting ahead of ourselves...

I know that I usually just skip the elimination league once a winner is crowned, but check this out:
Not only can you still make picks once the other teams are eliminated, but I'm still picking right!!  Man, I am so good at this game!  I know, I know... just try to control your enthusiasm...

OK, back on track... where were we? O, that's right...  Pick 'ems!  Looks like we've only got 4 people left still picking week to week. This week, RA Dave and Ben took the top spots at 4-2. Meanwhile, Phil and Mike both broke even at 3-3.  So, that means that Phil is barely hanging on up top at 34 picks, with Ben right on his heels at 32.  RA Dave a Mike are now tied at 29.  Shifting down a little, we've got a tight race for 5th place:  Crutch (at 26), Skoot (at 25), and Melanie (at 23).  Only 5 more games left in the regular season.  Looks like the pick 'ems are going to come down to the wire again.

Now, for the best of the best:  The DFL itself.  So, let's get to it!

Missy vs. Kookie.  ooh ooh ooh.. Looks like Missy *barely* got to 80 points this week!  She hasn't scored this low since week 2.  So, surely her winning streak comes to an end here.  Right, Kookie??  Sadly, no.  Missy rolls on.  Kookie, I think that Sir Chapman speaks for all of us:

Special shout out to Missy (pun fully intended):  Congrats on breaking your vow of silence in the smack talk this week.  I absolutely hope that we'll be hearing a cuss one of these days...

RA Dave vs McClennen.  Well, RA Dave resoundingly laid the smack down of the week this week.  Somehow, the DEFs in the game racked up 35+ points.  But really, the big difference was that Brady keeps showing his old form.  Almost 30 points, and that's how you bring the hammer down.

Crutch vs Skoot.  Yeah, this was the other big game of the week. In case you missed it, Crutch pciked up Tannehill, Robinson, and Hill on Friday, just to fill in players who were hurt. You might be asking who they are. That would be the guys who scored 27, 13, and 23 points respectively.  Just to make sure that we got this, let me say that again.  Crutch picked up about 65 points on Friday.  That's just... good on ya, sir!

Melanie vs Mike.  So, we go from the high to the low...  Although Melanie's D did go negative, Mike upped the ante and has his QB go *really* negative.  Like, just a hair away from double digit negative.  Coupling that with only one player hitting double digits, just make this a complete pain fest for Mike.  So, now,we can all call Melanie by her new nickname:  Pinhead.  (That's like Pinhead from Hellraiser, not pinhead from Bill O'Reilly.  Man, this election season needs to get out of my head.)

Phil vs. Patrick. And now we come to the closest game of the week. This game come down to Monday night:  Hilton vs. Bradshaw.  Lucky for me, Hilton stepped up and into the endzone to just barely pull the V to my side.

Ben vs. Terri.  Something must have been in the water at the G house this last weekend.  Terri's QB went negative as well.  Luckily, the rest of her team stepped up, to prevent an all out brutalization, but not enough to keep Ben firmly entrenched in 2nd place.  Oh, fun note about this game as well.  Both teams hit line up Nirvana because of the 6 players on the bench, 5 of them were on BYE and the other was out.

And that's about it.  Oh wait.. something broke today...  Hey, that's right!  AP pleaded to charges, which means that Goodell might lift his suspension.  So, with all of the rest that he's been getting, I'll have to keep my eyes firmly fixed on the waiver wire for...

WTF?  Oh, Skoot snagged him up.   At noon today.  In this league.  With *3* bench slots.  While the BYE weeks are still ravaging the line ups like reavers.  But Skoot thinks that he'll be worth the prospecting.  Now, I hope that AP stays out of the league for at least the rest of the season for a reason beyond the fact that he's a horrible person:  Just to screw with Skoot.    Gollum tell Skoot how we feel about him:

DFL 2013 Week 9: Like a Boss.

Awwww.... yeah.  So, how's this for one hell of a week?  I'm playing my two most bitter rivals in my fantasy leagues, and I'm trying to snap a 3 game losing streak in my third league.  How do I pull it off?  Like a boss!!  Going into the Monday night game, I need Rodgers to essentially take a shit on the field.  That way, I'll seal the game in the other league, where my opponent was starting him.  What?  What?  What's that? He didn't even hit a single point? Hells Yeah!! He was completely shut down by the Defense!!!  Wait... what's that?  He broke his collar bone?  So, he's out for the foreseeable future?  Well, shit.  High fives for everyone this week anyways.  Three wins is three wins.

The penultimate guy is the rest of my season.
Something tells me that the rest of my write ups will be significantly less cheery from here on out...

Starting with elimination league, as is tradition...  a pair of matching picks (for two weeks in a row, I might add - Ben and Joy) and Marie standing by herself.  With the cheese.  And not metaphorical cheese.  Really honest to Wisconsin cheese.  Sadly, not a single one of them took the last strike this week.  Which means, 3 teams are still going to be slugging it out in week 10.  Holy cow, guys.  Well done.  (And I am going to guess that all three of them pick Tennessee in week 10.  Titans, I swear to all that is is potatoes, if you eliminate all of them this week, I'm going to be most disappoint.

See?  That one was an intentional typo!
Pick 'ems!  Pretty tight week this week.  Terri was the high scorer going 5-1, which puts her right back into the race.  Crutch was the second highest, pulling in 4-2, which solidifies his first place position quite nicely.  Everyone else went 3-3.  No change in the rank from last week.  Though it is interesting to note that with Terri's jump, the difference between the second and sixth place is a scant 2 picks.  Now, if we can just get Crutch to forget to make his picks one of these weeks, we'll all be sitting in butter.

And that leaves us with the gamey games!

We'll start with the beatdown of the week.  McClennen invoked his Kookie BYE this wee.  True, Kookie had 3 starters on BYE this week, but McClennen did manage to put down the third highest number of points this week.  Also, McClennen hit line up Nirvana.  So, he really made use of the Kookie BYE week.

McClennen gets the Patience Award for sticking with Thomas Ruprecht Brady through 8 painful weeks to watch him re-emerge in week 9 with a 30 points game.

Kookie gets ... you know what? I'm going to bail on his award this week... I'm not sure that he's reading any more and I don't want to attract his attention until week 13, the week after I play him next.  Dammit, I want my Kookie BYE!!

(Also, a fun fact... Kookie has mathematically eliminate himself from the playoffs this year.  So, the good news is that he can really go for broke and start with some crazy trades. :) )

Next up, the points bowl:  Patrick versus Melanie.  Holy cow!  Were any of you keeping your eyes on this game?  They put up the 2 highest scores this week, both exceeded projections by well over 10 points, both hit line up Nirvana, and it was a tight game, and it was a huge upset.  Great game guys!

Patrick earns the Don't Be Like Phil lesson/trophy.  I also picked up and started Locker in my other league  And I'm betting that you looked at Foles like I did and said "Nah.....  Foles sucks.  He'll never produce"  Then 7 freaking touchdowns later, we both look the fool.  That was one hell of a game for Foles.  O wait.... it wasn't a game.  It was 3 quarters.  Doggone!  Anyway, well done Patrick

Melanie pulls in the Insult And Injury lemon papercut award.  Even though she was projected to have 10% more points than Patrick had, not a single person picked her to win.

And speaking of crowd picks...  They say that the more people that you have picking something, the closer that you'll be to the truth of the matter.  Not the case in this next game:  RA Dave versus Mike G.

In the battle of the Slightly Odd, but nonetheless nicknames, *everyone* picked Mike G to win.  Not so.  RA Dave gave Mike G a good thrashing.

RA Dave takes home the Jason Nesmith award for Never giving up, never surrendering.

Mike G gets the True dat award for summing up the game nicely in the smack talk:  "what hurts is t y hilton had a great night but it only got me within 10 points".  Truth.

Here's another tight game:  Crutch versus Terri. This one was within a few points as well.  Man, these BYE Weeks are at least consistent in the screwing that they are handing to us.

Crutch is hereby awarded the "Dammit, Arien" token.  Foster just had to gain pretty much anything this week and it would have meant the game for Crutch.  Dammit, Arien.

Terri gets a few awards this week.  Go ahead and just pick one:

  • I don't need no Manning! award, for doing just fine in the one week that she would most likely lose.
  • Dammit, Golden! trinket for not having Golden Tate go buck wild and still winning the game.
  • Flacco?  FLACCO? for picking up Flacco and having his have a decent game.  Almost doubled the projections.....
Dun Dun DUNNNN!!!!!  Game of the week.  A bit lower scoring than I was figuring.  But at least I called it.  Ben just barely misses a win.  Or as Ben put it "Also, fuck you for calling my ff game so depressingly accurately."  Hey, man... at least your QB is still healthy....

Ben  once again gets the "Thank You, Sir. May I have another?" paddle for once again getting so close to victory and just letting it slip through his fingers.  If  he had started either of his benched players not on BYE, he would have won the game.

Skoot gets the Hubis award for not playing a TE.  I asked him about his empty TE slot and he just scoffed. Yeah, just like Count Strahd.  He said "What?  ME?  Pick up a TE?  I've got the dream team, baby.  Ben's a little bitch and I'm going to woop him thusly."  Well played, Sir.  Well played indeed.

Also, Skoot found himself a nice little bug.  Skoot had Dalton to see how he did on Thursday night.  When Dalton Romo'd, Skoot was able to drop him after the Thursday night game, but before the Sunday games.  Fortunately for him, hilariously for me, and frustrating for Ben, Skoot picked up (and started) Stacy.  You know.  The guy who score 20 points for Skoot out of freaking nowhere?  Yeah, that guy.

Finally, we come to the game I've been waiting all year.   Me versus Missy....  The grudge match to settle all grudge matches.  Did it help that I have 4 top shelf players on BYE? It did not.  But Missy once again showed her witchy ways.  I (barely) took home the victory, but my starting QB will be out for at least a month with a broken collar bone.  AAARGG!!!

Missy  gets the ... well... hmm... I dunno... I'm trying to lay an award at her feet that will convey the proper sense of humiliation at losing when I couldn't even get a single point out of my QB, while at the same time highlighting her trying but failing miserably...  This is a hard one... Ah!  Got it.  You get the healthcare.gov award.  You should be able to see it in 4-6 weeks.

Phil gets the simple victory.  For that is all that I really want.  It's taken me a year to get here, so I'll just savor it while I can.

Mike G gets a *very* stern warning to keep his hexes to himself, thank you very much.  Seriously, take a look at the smack on my game.  More smack here than when Batman loses his shit on Robin:

And that's about it for this week.  After such an intense week, I'm going to take a week of the write ups off.  Skoot will be filling in for me next week, as I have been messing with his league on his boards.  So, he totally owes me.

Enjoy!

DFL 2013 Week 9: Game of the Week

Man... Looking around the league, this is going to be one hell of a week for BYEs.  There are 6 teams sitting this week.  (Don't worry though - last week and this week were the killer BYE weeks; it should get better from here on out.)  In fact in my charity league, we have a 4 man bench.  All of the guys on the bench for both teams are on BYE.  Dear lord, I hope that I hit line up nirvana on that one...

Anyway, there's a lot of gimpy choices out there this week for the featured game. I mean I finally get to lose to play Missy this week.  I've been looking forward to that since last season!  The only problem is that this game won't really make a huge change in the league, regardless of who wins.  You know what will be interesting?

Skoot versus Ben.  Skoot's sitting atop the league at first place with a bullet.  Ben, on the other hand has just about as many cumulative points as Skoot does, but is ranked *9* places below him.  Plus, Skoot seems to be going balls to the wall and playing his TE on BYE this week since we don't have enough roster spots to cover hi crazy BYE Week.

So, that's it. Game of the Week:  Skoot versus Ben.  I'm predicting 100+ points games for each of them, and Skoot winning by like half a point.  Cuz that's how Ben rolls.  This is how I predict the game will go:

Wait for it...
Good luck, Gents!

DFL Week 9: On Kookie Time!

Blarg...  Yeah. I know, I know... It' 9 pm on the Monday of Week 10 and the Week 9 write up isn't out yet...  I'm going to make a commissioner call and say that the weekly write up isn't officially late until the last game of the next week is over.  So, yeah.  That means that I've got another 2.5 hours to write this one up.  And it will be officially on time!

(And yes, if you are studying trending, then next week's blog will be out around the time of the super bowl...)

Now, let's get on to the hot sauce!  Elimination league!  We officially have a winner!  After 9 long weeks, Ben emerges victorious as Joy *ahem* forgot to choose a week 9 pick.  Good on you, Ben!  Winning by default still counts!  And this is the part of the blog where I bitch about how the elimination league doesn't actually give trophies except to the winner, and that is only if the winner does so alone.  Aaahhh.. nevermind.  Being that I didn't win I can say that this is a silly little contest that doesn't matter anyways.  Yeah, That's how I roll.

Next up!  Pick'em...  Big, big week here, boys and girls!!  In an ultimate act of hubris, Kookie decided not to make any picks this week.  And in an ultimate act of shitty picks, Phil blew his chance to even tie.  Big winners this week wee Ben and Melanie with 4-2.  RA Dave upped his win percentage by going 3-0, and the only more embarrassing move than Phil was Skoot.  Dear Mr Belgrave tried to secure a 100% pick rating this year by picking himself over Kookie.  Generally a good plan, but Kookie pulled an upset (what's that? two wins in a row?  Call it a come back!), leaving skoot holding a 0% pick this year.  Not very surprisingly, Skoot was the only one to pick himself this week....

Next up, we've got the main event or as I like to call it "How shitty is Phil doing this week?"  The answer?  Very shitty.

However, not as shitty as a certain Mike G.  In a record setting year, Mike takes the highest beat down of any team ever in the DFL.  A whopping 63 points.  Congrats to Joy for delivering the killing blow.  Some other highlights:

  • Everyone who picked in Phil vs Terri got it wrong.  Sorry to be the spoiler here, guys.
  • Phil's call of "closest game of the year" (Ben vs RA Dave) wound out having a 28 point difference.  Ugh... where is my head in picks this year?  And, seriously, Ben, field a team!  (though in a very nice snippet, 3 of Ben's 4 playeres on the bench went with goose eggs, and only 1 was on bye!)
  • In the Daggone game of the week, Missy put up 109 points against her DFL sponsor Melanie, only to lose by a full touchdown...  But Melanie team didn't have that good of a d-  Oh, Doug Martin pulle din 45 points?  Yeah, I don't know who he thinks he is either... (And in Missy's defense, here DEFENSE pulled in 30 points themselves...)
  • Just noticing this now, but Skoot picked himself to win, even though his starting TE was on BYE and out with an injury.  Now *that* would have been awesome sauce were you to pull that win off!!!
That's about all tha tI've got in me tonight...  Not a great write up, I realize, but good enough for now.  Next week will be better... What with no elimination league to worry about.
(Author's note:  heading into the Monday night game I've only pulled in 44 points.  so, I haven't yet decided whether I'm going to be pissed or just sad.  Either might just work in this league...)
